The antidote is a short, rehearsed reset, and the best part is that its core tool — a slow breath — has real physiological backing. Why a slow breath actually works
Slow breathing isn't a placebo. Controlled studies show that slowing the breath to roughly six cycles per minute shifts the body toward its calming, parasympathetic state. Age-appropriateness
This is low-load mental-skills work with no physical stress, so it's safe at any age. The breathing and the reset structure can be simplified for younger players — one breath, one cue word, "let it go and look at the glove." Older and more advanced athletes can add a daily slow-breathing base and rehearse the reset after a heart-rate spike to feel the down-regulation in real time.
