Round two swaps immediately to the game bat and repeats a fresh scripted 20. The gamer should now feel easy to hold back, because the disciplined trigger was just grooved under load. Score chase rate again. The win condition is that the game-bat chase rate is at or below the overload round — proof the discipline transferred and the hitter is not just tired.
Run three to four total rounds, alternating bats. Keep heavy-bat swing volume modest; this is a decision drill, not a strength session.
Coaching the drill well
The language matters. "Heavy bat, slow yes" tells the hitter the swing must be earned by a clear strike read. "See it land before you leave" fights the early commit. And critically, treat a clean take on a ball as a win worth celebrating — most hitters get praised only for contact, which quietly rewards swinging. Here, laying off a ball *is* the rep.
