Machine-Fed Pop-Time Groove Drill for Catchers
Use a pitching machine or coach front-toss to deliver identical strikes on a fixed cadence so the catcher can groove full receive-transfer-throw pop times to second base at game tempo, without the noise of an inconsistent live pitcher.
⏱ ~20 min📋 Sets of 5-8 max-effort throws on a fixed 8-12 second cadence; 4-6 sets per session with rest and time-review between sets; cap around 30-40 full throws total
What you'll need
- Pitching machine (or coach + L-screen for front-toss)
- Baseballs or softballs (regulation)
- Catcher's full gear and mitt
- Throw-down base or bag at second
- Stopwatch or pop-time timing app
