Tee-Gate Block Drill: A Stay-Down Constraint to Raise Catcher Block %
A batting tee set at mask height becomes a 'gate' the catcher can't clip - it forces chest-over-ball posture and stops the pop-up habit so more balls in the dirt die inside a small trap zone in front of the plate.
⏱ ~15 min📋 3 calibration reps (no throw), then 3 rounds: 10 center + 10 arm-side + 10 glove-side blocks (30 blocks/round), charting contained vs. miss each side
What you'll need
- Full catcher's gear (mask, chest protector, shin guards, cup)
- Batting tee (used as the height 'gate')
- Foam or rag ball (for the tee top)
- Bucket of tennis / soft training balls (progress to regulation balls)
- Floor tape, chalk, or a rope loop (trap zone)
